:+:  Pumpernickel's Deli & Eatery Review  :+:

Pumpernickel's is a sandwich shop located in downtown Bloomington, IL (Illinois).

Date this place was visited:  December 29th, 2004.

The deli, itself, is located in a small shop at 113 N. Center street in downtown Bloomington, Illinois, which allows people to purchase their food and go, or they can go through a small passage into a cozy dining room with around eight tables and order a sit-down meal.

It opened for business on June 5th, 2004, and while it does not yet serve alcohol, it may serve beer and wine in the near future.

Pumpernickel's Deli & Eatery is owned by Terry Groff and Carl Olson.

  The food:

Sandwiches are the main food served here, either in hot or cold form, but they also offer soups, salads, an entree, and a few desserts.

Sandwiches are served on Italian, pumpernickel, or wheat bread, or an onion ciabatta (don't ask me, I don't know what it is, either.  LOL), or on a croissant (a fancy cresent roll I think).

The meats you can choose from include turkey, chicken, pepperoni, salami, roast beef, and ham.

Cheeses: American, cheddar, Swiss, smoked gouda, mozzarella, and provolone.

When I ate there, I had a sandwich on Italian bread.  Half roast beef and half corned beef, with cheddar cheese.

The food, while un-remarkable, was somewhat filling, was fresh, and tasted well.

However, the Italian bread was just a little crumbly, and there wasn't much cheese on the sandwich.  If you order a sandwich there, ask for extra cheese.  It'll cost you an additional 60 cents, but it'll be worth it, I'm certain.

The service was very good.  The employees there seemed to know what they were doing.  When my friend and I ate there, and asked for condiments on the side, that was what we got, and the sandwich was divided onto two plates as well as the chips.  This is something to remark about, as many other restaurants have employees who seem to screw up simple tasks like this, and you have to get them to take it back and do it over.  They didn't hover around, but led us to the table, provided us with something to drink before taking our order, spoke with us for a minute, and acted in a professional manner.
