The Astronaut Screams for Nine Minutes or Astronaut Screams for 9 Minutes Scam

During the Big Bang Theory's season 6, episode 2 show "The Decoupling Fluctuation", Howard Wolowitz (played by Simon Helberg) was bullied by astronauts aboard the international space station AKA ISS.  It seems that even some astronauts never mature past grade school bullying.  But, that's hardly a surprise when you see news stories about armed astronauts chasing someone for hundreds of miles across five states while wearing diapers . . .

In the episode, Howard Wolowitz tells his wife, Bernadette Rostenkowski (played by Melissa Rauch), that one of the other astronauts had went on a spacewalk (which is usually referred to as an EVA or Extra-Vehicular Activity, these days) had glued a rubber mask of a big-eyed alien to the outside of his window.  He told Bernadette that he screamed for nine minutes, and to google astronaut screams for nine minutes (or astronaut screams for 9 minutes, for those who prefer it written that way).

However, doing such a search on google will not show you a real video of an astronaut screaming for nine minutes, but, instead, only shows you still pictures of Howard Wolowitz in a video with a scream repeated over and over again, proving that the astronaut screaming for nine minutes thing is just a scam.  Well, on the parts of those who put up the videos, at least . . .  For Simon Helberg, who was playing Howard Wolowitz, an astronaut in Big Bang Theory's season 6, episode 2 show "The Decoupling Fluctuation", it was kind of like Marvel comics' (which is now owned by the the Walt Disney company) Deadpool (one of my favorite comic book characters, by the way, primarily because of some of his lines) breaking the fourth wall by talking about something in our version of reality or timeline, which only exists in his character's timeline.  Well, google exists and videos on the Web do, but, his character's would be different, even if only slightly, as things that those characters did never happened in this timeline.  But, as many who have studied the phenomenon of temporal manipulation know, the further back you did something, the more of an effect it has on the here and now, as opposed to the there and then.  Er, or something like that.  For some reason, I start to zone out whenever the subject of time travel comes up.  Maybe it's because time travel is one of the most over-used cliches in the science fiction genre, or maybe the Nagasaki vector was more of an influence than I realized . . .

And, speaking of Nagasaki, I think Nagasaki city has one of the coolest flags I've ever seen.  But, then, I also really liked Rush's 2112 album, too, usually when I was in an altered state of consciousness.  ;-)  And, before anyone starts jumping to the wrong conclusion (or the right one?), altered states of consciousness can include how you are after you get physical trauma (I could set my own bones by the time I was a teenager.  Just don't ask how I got experienced with setting my own bones, and we'll be okay), experience sleep deprivation, enter a hypnotic state, drink alcohol, or when you focus too much on a television show (like the Big Bang Theory) or movie (such as Altered States, where someone was trying to achieve an altered state of consciousness, or ASC, in a sensory deprivation tank).  Hee hee hee  And, people wonder why advertising in television shows or movies is so effective, and it's so difficult for you to get certain advertisement jingles out of your mind (car commercials are the worst as well as the most annoying, as anyone who's heard the one sung to the tune of the original Ghostbusters movie theme song can confirm) . . .  But, un-like John Spartan in Demolition Man, I wouldn't have simply groaned at the thought of all-commercial radio, but, would have been tempted to shoot it.  Do you think I might be able to claim it was an accident if I emptied several clips into it?  ;-)

If this page doesn't look right to you:

If you are using micro$haft winblows' internet explorer this page likely won't look right to you.  LOL  But, if you're using a Web browser that's tied into your operating system like that one is, it's almost guaranteed that you have much bigger probelms than what a Web page looks like!  Just think of it this way; how much faith do you have in a company to give you important updates to your operating system when it is years behind on keeping even their Web browser (that almost every single windoze customer uses, and can easily see the errors it makes in Web pages like this one) up to date?

Another reason it might not look right to you is if you're using a better Web browser but have a small screen resolution or you have your fonts set very large (or both), and there's a scroll bar at the bottom.  If this is the case, you at least know the cause, and can better deal with it.

If you're having difficulty reading the text, you can try changing your Web browser's fonts.  For an easier to read sans-serif font, Verdana is a fairly good choice.  Just remember that text looks a little different if you change fonts, so words may look mis-spelled to you.  But, since even professional news journalists can't spell correctly these days, few people may notice your typographical errors.

If something else doesn't look right, maybe you should check to see if you have the latest version of your Web browser.  Always a good idea to keep up to date with the latest stable release of software.  Can I get a "Hell, yes" my geek brothers and sisters?  Hee hee hee
