3D chat name: Cyboria
Note: I have not been able to get the Cyboria program to run for a while now. Last time I tried the program was on October 20th, 2002, so as far as I know, this program has ceased to exist. When I checked their Website on May 23rd, 2003, they said the program may become open source, but until it does, you're better off trying something else. The rest of the information I've included about the program was true then, but should be considered null and void for now, until the program is re-started. Then I'll refresh the information.
Time of visit:
Between 2:00 - 4:00 a.m. (central time zone in the US) Sunday, July 21st, 2002.
Do you recommend this program to people?
Yes!
The person running the program, Derek Rayburn, seems to care about the users, and it's showing lots of promise! :-)
Do they have voice chat?
No.
Can the program be used for free?
Yes, but it's not open to the public, yet. It's still in Alpha, but you can sign up to be notified when they want more people to test it.
Cost per year for a full user if they sign up now:
If you pay $39.95 to them for a citizenship during the Alpha release, you get 3 years for the price of one. If you pay that amount during the Beta release, you get 2 years for the price of 1. After it gets released as version 1, the cost per year per citizenship is $39.95. Got the info from this page, so you can check it for yourself.
How many people in the program at the time of the visit?
N/A. Since it's not open to the public yet, it's not fair to compare populations.
Cost of a world:
They don't have worlds for sale, yet, but the prices they're thinking of charging are listed here.
How many worlds are there or were seen in the world list at the time of the visit?
There's only one world at the moment because it's in Alpha, but I'm sure that won't be for much longer.
Is there gor (people who are into slavery) stuff there?
No, and I don't think there will be any in the future. :-)
If you create your own avatar, can you use it in all the worlds?
Not sure how they'll have the avatars yet.
Can you customize the avatars they provide to you for free and use them in all the worlds?
Same as last. I don't know how it's going to be set up, yet.
What about privacy?
Think it'll be similar to Active Worlds with citnumbers and all that. Unsure what the privacy policy will be, but the disclaimer makes for entertaining reading. ;-)
Can I get a tour of the program?
Not much of a universe to tour, yet.
Are they fair to everyone, or do they have double standards?
From the experiences I've had so far with Derek Rayburn, he seems to be fair.
Did you make a Web page for more information on the program?
Yes. You can find it here.
What are the people like in this program?
Well, there are people from Active Worlds using this program, and there are likely to be jerks in every program and some of them seem to thrive on conflict, attacking and lying about others, ignoring all attempts to work things out, but I'm hoping that things will be nicer here than in AW because there won't be any gor worlds in this universe. Guess time will tell. Hope the mute function gets put in soon...
Where's their official Web site?
Are there any specific places you would recommend people visit in this program?
There's only one world in it at the time of this report, but if I find some cool ones later, I'll let you know.
Screenshots of the 3D chat program.
I took some, but don't think it's worth getting people interested in it until it's open to the public.
Entertainment in this 3D chat program:
None. Just people chatting.
Additional comments, if any:
May 23rd, 2003: When I looked at the Website, they mentioned making this an open source project, but until that happens and the public is allowed to use it, you're better off getting information on other 3D chat programs.
